The Education and Human Resources Development Council Decides to Increase the Number of Students to Be Admitted to Medicine and Dentistry Programs for the Academic Year 2026-2027

The Education and Human Resources Development Council, during its session held today, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, chaired by the Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, Prof. Dr. Azmi Mahafza, approved an increase in the number of students to be admitted to Medicine and Dentistry programs at Jordanian universities for the academic year 2026-2027. This increase included the numbers scheduled for admission in both the Regular and Parallel Programs at public universities, in addition to the numbers scheduled for admission at private universities.

The Education and Human Resources Development Council confirmed that this decision comes within the framework of the periodic reviews it conducts of the capacity of universities in various specializations, while taking into consideration the fulfillment of special accreditation standards.

This decision aims to limit the tendency of Jordanian students to study medical specializations outside Jordan, in order to preserve the quality of graduates by providing greater opportunities to study at Jordanian universities, which have achieved an outstanding reputation in this field. It also aims to provide financial resources that students spend on studying outside Jordan. In this regard, the Council is studying raising the minimum admission average for studying medical specializations outside Jordan.

According to this decision, the scheduled number of admissions to the Medicine specialization under the Regular Program at public universities will be increased to (840) male and female students instead of (640) male and female students. The scheduled number of admissions to the Dentistry specialization will also be increased to (400) male and female students instead of (320) male and female students. The percentage allocated for admitting students under the Parallel Program will also be increased. As for private universities, the number of students scheduled to be admitted to the Medicine and Dentistry specializations will be increased by (20) students in each specialization at each university.
