Distinguished Jordanian Participation in a Seminar on Micro-Credentials in Rabat

A high-level Jordanian delegation participated in the seminar “Micro-Credentials – Skills and Employment,” organized by the European Union as part of the Higher Education Development Initiative in Neighbourhood Countries. The event was held on June 2–3, 2025, in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, with the participation of over 60 experts from 28 countries.

The Jordanian delegation included Dr. Ahmad Abu El-Haija, Director of the Erasmus+ Office in Jordan; Dr. Mahmoud Al-Shayyab, Head of the Higher Education and Scientific Research Development Team; Prof. Mamoun Al-Dabie, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research; and Dr. Dhafer Al-Saraira, President of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission.

Jordan's participation was marked by positive engagement and constructive contributions that reflected the country’s commitment to developing the higher education system and enhancing regional and international cooperation in this field. The delegation benefited from the experiences of the participating countries and the attending EU experts. Dr. Mamoun Al- Dabie and Dr. Dhafer Al-Saraira participated in the high-level Policy Maker Round Table, which addressed current higher education policies and the role of micro-credentials in enhancing students' and graduates’ skills and linking them to the labor market.

Dr. Al- Dabie also presented Jordan's efforts to develop a national policy on micro-credentials in collaboration with the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, the Erasmus+ Office, Jordanian universities, and the private sector. He highlighted the steps taken so far to develop a national legal framework and link it to the Economic Modernization Vision 2023–2033.

The Jordanian delegation emphasized the country’s commitment to supporting lifelong learning and expanding opportunities for flexible learning through the promotion of recognition of non-formal learning and recognition of prior learning (RPL). They stressed the importance of developing a national digital platform to document and accredit micro-credentials, ensuring transparency and credibility. The team also addressed some challenges that hinder the official recognition of these credentials and underscored the importance of regional and international cooperation to overcome these obstacles.

It is worth noting that this participation comes as part of Jordan’s efforts to enhance the status of higher education and integrate micro-credentials as an effective tool to support lifelong learning, modern skills, and employability, thus contributing to sustainable development and meeting the demands of the labor market.
