In coordination with the Consulate General of Jordan in Erbil, a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Jordan Tourism Board begins an official working visit to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq

An official delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Jordan Tourism Board has begun an official working visit to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, during which they met with several officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The delegation will also tour a number of schools in the region with the aim of promoting study in Jordanian universities. The delegation included Mr. Muhannad Al-Khatib, Media Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Director of the Unified Admission Coordination Unit, and Mr. Khaled Al-Kilani, Representative of the Jordan Tourism Board in Iraq. On the first day of the visit, and in the presence of Mr. Fouad Al-Majali, Consul General of Jordan in Erbil, the delegation met with H.E. Dr. Alan Hama Saeed Saleh, Minister of Education in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. They also met with several officials responsible for the certification and equivalency of degrees in the Ministry of Education, as well as a number of scholarship officials in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

During the meetings, Mr. Muhannad Al-Khatib gave a detailed explanation of the efforts made by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to attract more international students to study at Jordanian universities, especially the launch of the Ministry’s electronic unified admission system for international students. This system aims to save time, effort, and money for the international student and help them obtain university admission from their home country without the need for any intermediary of any kind. The meetings also included discussions on several issues of mutual interest, including the finalization of procedures for signing the executive program in the field of higher education and scientific research and the exchange of students and faculty members. Additionally, mechanisms for sending students from the region to study at Jordanian universities were discussed.

It is worth noting that this visit comes after the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the brotherly Kurdistan Region of Iraq officially announced its recognition of all Jordanian public and private universities. These universities participated in the Jordanian-Kurdish Higher Education Forum (Erbil–2024), which was held last May 2024. During the forum, the participating universities signed agreements with universities in the Kurdistan Region in the governorates of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok. This is considered a culmination of the efforts made to ensure the success of the forum.
